#Banksy Wraps Up NYC

That's right ladies and gentlemen... Mr. Banksy has left the building... err, city. Throughout October, he made NYC his personal art gallery with a wide array of installments. The pieces varied from his staple street art, to more unusual mediums such as a truck full of animatronic stuffed animals on their way to the slaughterhouse.

UK based Banksy, made a name for himself in the international art community through his political based graffiti art. In the early 90's, he was introduced to graffiti through Bristol's DryBreadz Crew using a mix of stencils and freehand. By the late 90's, Banksy's style had progressed to using majority stencils. From rags to riches; in 2006, Banksy's art was auctioning for as much as £102,000 ($160,000). To this day, there is much speculation as to who Banksy really is. He says on his website, "I am unable to comment on who may or may not be Banksy, but anyone described as being 'good at drawing' doesn't sound like Banksy to me."

Banksy's popularity and fame has grown since his start, which makes it that much more special that he spent an entire month here in NYC. His website chronicles the art, installments, and shenanigans he was up to during his time here. One of the more well known stunts he pulled was on the 13th of October in Central Park. Banksy commissioned someone to sell his original (and yes, signed) pieces for $60 a pop. People could be seen haggling the vendor down, not knowing that these were the real deal. These pieces are estimated to be worth up to $30,000 each. Banksy's final piece of his New York residency can be seen at 5pointz in Long Island City, Queens. On his website he says "And that's it. Thanks for your patience. It's been fun. Save 5pointz. Bye"
